It was once believed that alchemists could harness the
powers of nature to prolong life and to transform worthless
metals into silver and gold. Believing art to be the true
panacea, Olivier Cornet, independent curator and artist’s
agent, has invited a number of artists to harness their
power, their creativity, to turn household objects and
recycled furniture into works of art, to breathe new life
into old artefacts. This exhibition endeavours to be a true
Alchemist’s Chamber – a melting pot of styles,
interpretations, talents and perspectives – that will
reinterpret and revitalise household objects we might have
otherwise overlooked.
Participating artists include Catherine Albieth, Lian Callaghan,
Mark
Doherty, John
Fitzsimons,
Jordi Forniés, Yanny Petters, Adrienne
Symes, Emily Symes, Sarah
Symes, and
Hanneke van Ryswyk.

A
preview of some the objects "before" and some
"after their transformation" can be seen here.

Dealing with diverse themes including consumerism, the
cults of celebrity and personality, junk food news and
environmentalism, ‘Herd Society’ constructs a
projected future with which to satirise their absurdities.
Using imagery drawn from both historical sources and
contemporary media, this darkly humorous world holds up a
distorted mirror to our own and invites us to laugh at
ourselves.
