Brian
Keogh (1958, Bray, Co. Wicklow). The work of the Wicklow-based
ceramist who trained in Ireland and the USA focuses upon
domestic stoneware using ash glazes, distinctive bird motif
decoration and wood fired pottery. Brian has received many
private and public commissions in the course of his 20-year
career, notably for films such as "Braveheart"
and "King Arthur". A teacher for many of those
years, Brian has welcomed people to his studio to release
their creative energies through the medium of clay to learn
a timeless skill than mankind has known for thousands of
years.
Every piece created by Brian
is both a craft piece and a work of art. In the last five
years, Brian has been developing more individual work, vases
mainly, endeavouring to distil and refine forms to arrive
at a certain simplicity and strength. Brian draws his inspiration
from those anonymous potters of the past, mainly from Korea
and China. "Their work speaks to me in an unselfconscious,
direct way. My aim continues to be to make pots skilfully,
directly, unselfconsciously and hopefully with simplicity
and integrity."
