Max McGuinness (b.1986) thinks photography has lost
its way.
A medium designed to capture reality has become increasingly
imitative of painting.
In the tradition of photographers like
Henri Cartier-Bresson and
W. Eugene Smith, Max believes the beauty of photography
should come from its truthfulness. He uses only black and
white film and prints his photographs personally using high
quality traditional photographic paper and toning
processes.
In 2002, Max worked as an intern at the
prestigious Magnum Photo Agency, Paris. As a journalist and
author, he writes regularly for the Sunday Independent, The
Dubliner and Village, and was shortlisted for the 2006
Francis MacManus Short Story Competition.
Max is currently a student at Oxford
University where he is reading for a BA in Philosophy and
French.
