Bartosz Kolata

Bartosz Kolata (1979) is a Polish artist who chose to live in Ireland after completing a Master of Fine Art at the Nicolaus Copernicus University of Torun, his home town.

In his words: "Painting is my path through life. It is not easy and I can't be sure if it is leading to a goal, but I think that it is a challenge worth rising to. I am not trying to change the world. You will not find in my art a lot of violence, even if I am taking up subjects like war or death. I am trying to sketch life in a different way with my own particular sense of humor. I am not indifferent to what is going on around me. There is such a massive onslaught of cruel and violent scenes blurring the line between reality and unreality that our sensibility has been weakened. A strong message does not always require a violent image, because you can often achieve much more through gentleness. I hope my paintings are able to restore people's sensibility, which is fundamental.

"Lost Blue Ball"

I am an artist living in the twenty-first century. I do use all the available advantages of modern technology. In order to catch all these little unpremeditated moments that happen around me I use a camera - as other painters use a sketchbook and pencil - to record the scenes. It has become a way of recording thoughts and working out my ideas. Subjects for my painting come from my life and are always connected with me and my emotions."
